This watermelon fudge recipe has been rattling around the attic area of my blog for about 4 years, and it desperately needed a makeover and a little TLC. I also wanted to make sure this version of the recipe had every little bit of info you guys need for best results, because I know some of you found this through a tiktok – make watermelon fudge trend and just want the goods, stat.

The first time I made this fudge, I just added gel food coloring to my go-to vanilla bean recipe (doubled the recipe, with one batch green and one batch pink). But when I found these bold, vibrant colored frostings at the grocery store, I decided to deviate and tweak my original recipe a bit. It’s still a traditional fudge base underneath all that fun color, I promise!

Anytime I don’t have to open up food coloring in my kitchen is a plus. I always make a mess. If you’d rather go the classic route, though, different food coloring shades of green food coloring and hot pink fudge coloring work just as well — totally up to you.

Why This Easy Watermelon Fudge Recipe Works

This fudge recipe is dangerously easy. Two main ingredients plus a microwave, and that’s really about it — no candy thermometer required, no double boiler, no fussing over exact temperatures. It’s an easy two-ingredient recipe that even a total beginner baker can pull off on the first try, and that’s exactly why I keep coming back to it every single summer.

Here are your ingredients:

Pillsbury Funfetti Frosting (in Vibrant Green Vanilla and Hot Pink Vanilla)

24 ounces White Chocolate Chips (I used Nestle)

Optional: miniature chocolate chips for the “seeds”

That’s it! No eagle-brand milk, no marshmallow crème, no unsalted butter to soften to room temperature. Just white chocolate chips and frosting doing all the heavy lifting. Simple, but so satisfying — it’s the kind of dessert recipe that looks way more impressive than the effort it actually takes.

<img decoding="async" width="620" height="936" data-pin-url="https://www.somethingswanky.com/watermelon-fudge/?tp_image_id=13136" data-pin-title="The Best Watermelon Fudge Recipe" data-pin-description="Looking for the best dessert to make on the 4th of July? You’ll want two safe bowls — one for your cup of green chocolate mixture and one for your cups of pink chocolate mixture, since we’re building this in two separate batches. A large bowl works great for melting, and a small bowl is perfect if you’re only making a small batch green portion for a little bitty pan.

Line your 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil and give it a light coat of non-stick spray (nonstick spray works too, whatever you’ve got on hand) so the fudge lifts right out later. Pour in the green fudge first, using a rubber spatula or the back of a large spoon to smooth it into an even layer — this is the base of this recipe, so take an extra second to get it flat.

Then pour your melted white chocolate mixture, now dyed hot pink, right on top. Use the back of a spoon again to spread it out evenly over the green layer. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips over the top to look like watermelon seeds, and then you’re pretty much done! Honestly, this whole process is such a fun, hands-on activity — it’s a genuinely kid-friendly activity too, since little hands love smoothing the layers and sprinkling the “seeds.”

All that’s left is to let the fudge chill until it’s firm enough to cut, and that really doesn’t take all that long. Maybe an hour, tops, at room temperature in the fridge.

<img decoding="async" width="620" height="936" data-pin-url="https://www.somethingswanky.com/watermelon-fudge/?tp_image_id=13137" data-pin-title="The Best Watermelon Fudge Recipe" data-pin-description="Looking for the best dessert to make on the 4th of July? Slice it into small pieces — I like little 1-inch squares, but you could also cut thin, triangular slices so each thin piece actually looks like little watermelon slices. Either way, every bite of this fudge is rich, creamy, and just melts in your mouth.

And just look how cute! It’s a perfect recipe for summertime– no bake, no fuss, and it looks like watermelon. What’s not to love?? It’s genuinely become one of my go-to treats to whip up whenever I need a really fun summer party dessert that doesn’t require me turning on the oven.

Note: if you want the fudge to taste like watermelon, you can add watermelon flavored candy oil to the fudge during the melting portion of the recipe. However, I really prefer the chocolate chip vanilla flavor of this recipe as is.

Adding Watermelon Extract For Extra Fruity Flavor

If plain vanilla just isn’t cutting it for you, a few drops of watermelon extract stirred into the melted white chocolate mixture is such an easy way to give this fudge an actual fruity flavor instead of just a fun look. Added watermelon flavoring really does wake up your taste buds and makes the whole thing taste like an actual watermelon candy, rather than just resembling one. It’s a fun little type of flavoring to experiment with if you’re feeling adventurous.

A tiny bottle goes a long way, so start with just a few drops and taste as you go — you can always add more, but you can’t take it out! This little tweak is honestly the best part of customizing this recipe to fit whatever you’re craving that day.

<img decoding="async" width="620" height="1675" data-pin-url="https://www.somethingswanky.com/watermelon-fudge/?tp_image_id=13138" data-pin-title="The Best Watermelon Fudge Recipe" data-pin-description="Looking for the best dessert to make on the 4th of July? I also love decorating the top edge with a strip of black fondant cut into little triangles to mimic watermelon seeds along the rind — it’s such a unique twist and makes the fudge look downright bakery-worthy for a backyard bbq or potluck.

Want to make a larger batch pink and green combo for a crowd? Just double or triple the recipe and use a bigger pan, keeping the same ratio of white chocolate chips to frosting. Store any remaining fudge in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks — if it even lasts that long!
